"If I Can't Change Your Mind," by Sugar.
>From their 1992 Rykodisc album Copper Blue.
Tabbed out by Keith E. Law (law2@husc.harvard.edu).
This is the single version. I have no clue if the album version is any
different.
There's another tab of this song out there somewhere, but it's very hard
to read so I decided to write it out in a more legible fashion.
NOTE: CAPO ON THIRD FRET!!!!!!!
All chord names herein designate position; e.g., D = XX0232, which, with a
capo on the third fret, is actually an F.
T = play with thumb
/ = slide up
\ = slide down
^ = bend ^q = quarter tone ^h = half tone ^F = full tone
if letter is above the fret #, note is bent THEN picked
h = hammer
p = pull-off
g = grace note - written above note to be 'graced'
~ = vibrato
This is the main riff:
--2---0-2---3---2-0--|--2---0-2---0-0-0-0--|
--3---3-3---3---3-3--|--3---3-3---3-2-0-2--|

For simplicity's sake, call this A pattern
Riff A.
Behind the lyrics:
D G
Tears fill up my eyes
D Riff A
I'm washed away with sorrow
D G
And somewhere in my mind
D Bm F#m
I know there's no tomorrow
G A
Well I see you're leaving soon
D A Bm F#m
I guess you've had your fill
G Riff A (to main riff)
But if I can't change your mind then no one will
[Same for verse 2]
And all throughout the years
I've never strayed from you my dear
But you suspect I'm somewhere else
You're feeling sorry for yourself
Leaving with a broken heart
I love you even still
But if I can't change your mind then no one will
If I can't change your mind
F#m G
Even though my heart keeps breaking
Bm C
Don't you know that I'll be waiting
D D Dsus2 Dsus4 D Dsus2 D
Here for you
F#m G
Then when you return
F#m G
When will you return
Bm
I hope you see I'm dedicated
C
Look how long that I have waited
F#m
If you come back then you will find
G Riff A
A different person if you change your mind
[Verse 3 - back to same pattern]
How can I explain away
Something that I haven't done
And if you can't trust me now
You'll never trust in anyone
Leaving with a broken heart
I love you even still
But if I can't change your mind then no one will
If I can't change your mind
[transition] Bm F#m
[jump to middle of verse pattern]
Someday you'll see I've been true
I'll stay that way until
But if I can't change your mind then no one will
The very end:

'If I Can't Change Your Mind'- Sugar
From 'Copperblue'
I've seen other transcriptions using a capo but this is how I play it.
It's sounds the best on a twelve string but still cool on a 6.
The rhythm isn't exactly right but the chords are good.
(Use your thumb for the F chords.)
