I Am The Bloody Earth (Bass)
Tuning: Down 1 1/2 steps to C#
C# F# B E
(I'll leave all you other bassists to work out the tempo or timing)
Intro/First Verse/Outro
During the instrumental with the heavy-breathing keyboard samples at the
beginning of the song, all the bass is doing is hitting C# every so often.
It's pretty easy to work out the timing if you get a copy of Trinity and
listen to the song closely. Both the second and first riff are repeated a
few times before the vocals start, and after the first verse is finished.
1st riff
E---------------8----(7)(7)(3)(3)(4)(4)------------------------------
F#--7---5---8-----------------------------4---4---4---4---2--4--5--4-
C#--------------------5--5--1--1--2--2-------------------------------
Vocal: 1. "Lay down with beasts and welter in my gore..."
3. "Bright, riding in heaven, the player in rags..."
(Outro) 1. "Safe delivery of a handsome child..."
3. "My endeavours to rise seem useless..."
2nd riff
E---------------8----(7)(7)(3)(3)(4)(4)---------------5---3---------
F#--7---5---8-----------------------------4---4---4-----------5---4-
C#--------------------5--5--1--1--2--2------------------------------
Vocal: 2. "Fill your cups of Christ, I am the bloody earth..."
4. "White bat is death? Feed it to pigs..."
(Outro) 2. "Merry and sweet looking..."
4. "But I will fight the distance between us..."
Second verse
In this part the first two notes are held or slid for maximum effect
1st riff
E------------6--6--5---------
F#--5-----------------4------
C#-------4-------------------
Vocal: "Rise to be a king, shining with power..."
2nd riff
E-------------4--4--2--6-----
F#---------------------------
C#--8----2-------------------
Vocal: "Down silent avenues, I live on..."
Third Verse/Instrumental Solo Bit
These parts are played with a very show-off feel, and there is a second
vocalist involved (listen to the CD).
1st riff - verse part
E------------------------------------
F#--7-7-7-7-------9---12------12\---5
C#-----------0----9-------10---------
Vocal: 1. "Life... (you owe yours to me)..."
2. "Wear... (me around your neck)..."
3. "Kneel... (and cry for me)..."
4. "Son... (father please help me)..."
2nd riff - instrumental part
E------------------------------------------
F#--7---4-----------9--8--9--8-h9-p8-----6-
C#----------5---4---------9-----------9----
This riff is then "doubled up" so that the bass and guitars play as
many notes as they can fit (ie one quarter note becomes two eighth
notes), but the timing of chromatic changes is not affected. The
song then returns to the riffs in the first verse.
